About The Company

National Bank of Kenya Ltd was started as a wholly owned entity by the government of Kenya in 1968. It is based in Nairobi, Kenya.  The bank is engaged in the provision of a large variety of corporate, retail, business, and Islamic financial products. These include deposit products (current, savings, term, fixed deposit and transactional accounts), and loans (overdrafts, both secured and unsecured, term, mortgage, microfinance, trade finance, working capital finance, and construction finance loans).

National Bank of Kenya also offers debit and credit cards, investment products, transactional solutions, bancassurance and account relationship management services.  Apart from its physical network of branches and ATMs, some of the services are provided through online and mobile platform.

The bank was converted from a state corporation into a public limited liability company in 1994, when the government of Kenya offloaded 32% of its 100% stake in the bank to the public. Through this, the bank became listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. In 1996, the government further reduced its stake in the bank to 22.5%.
