About The Company
The Nation Media Group (NMG) is the largest media house in east and central Africa. Its headquarters are on Kimathi Street, within the central business district of Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1959 by the Aga Khan, NMG’s business involves printing, publication, and the distribution of magazines and newspapers. Newspaper and magazine brands owned by NMG include: the daily and Sunday Monitor papers, the Daily and Sunday Nation newspapers, Mwananchi daily, Mwana Spoti, The Citizen, the East African, The Weekly Advertiser, and Business Daily. It also runs a number of television and radio stations within the east and central African region (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda), including NTV, NTV Uganda, and 93.3 KFM. Additionally, NMG runs Nation Carriers Ltd, which offers transport for the other divisions within the firm, and distribution of the firm’s products countrywide. Its subsidiary, Nation Courier, provides mail and package delivery services across many countries. It also distributes a number of international magazines, including the Economist, Times, Newsweek and Fortune. NMG became a public company in 1973, after the Aga Khan sold 40% of his stake to the public. This stake was bought by 8,000 new shareholders. Since then, NMG’s shares have been listed on, and continue to trade at the Nairobi Securities Exchange. The firm is also cross listed at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, Uganda Securities Exchange and the Rwanda Stock Exchange. Nation Media Group was listed at the Nairobi Securities Exchange in 1972. Nation Media Group was listed on Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange on 21st February 2011.
