Mumias Sugar Co. Ltd | Annual Reports

About The Company

Mumias Sugar Company was incorporated in 1971, and is the largest sugar miller in Kenya. At the time, it was a state corporation in which the Kenyan government held 71% of the firm’s stake with the rest being held by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (17%), Kenya Commercial Finance Company (5%), Booker McConnel (4%) and the East African Development Bank (3%). In 2001, the firm was converted into public limited liability company, and its shares listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

The firm manufactures and sells brown, white and fortified sugar in assorted packaging units. It is also engaged in the cogeneration of electric power from bagasse, which is then offloaded onto the national grid. Mumias’ other products include ethanol. The production of its “Sprinkles” bottled water brand was recently discontinued. Its head office is located along the Kakamega-Bungoma Road, Mumias, Kenya.  It also retains another office in Nairobi.
